Looking at Item db in Access is 10,000 in the POS database 37,900

Threaded View

This is very puzzling, I go to my item look up in manager RMS POS and it =
says that I have 37,900 records... I look up Item.odb with Access =
conection and I get only 10,000.... and the Supplier ID is all screwed =
up... What the heck is going on?  Connect and import from Excell and I =
get 37,900....

Is access realiable?  I just purchased it thinking that I could use it =
as a front end to update data...

Any one throw me bone here :-)

Yes, if you want risk corrupting your RMS database. :-) Fair warning.

The guy has a good question RE viability of Access.

The answers are a little vague, could anybody explain briefly why RMS
database coruption would result from this combo?

Because a ton of "business logic", including some data validation and
constratints  is built into the RMS Front End - when you go outside the
front end, you lose that and need to make sure that you are taking care of
it yourself.  Since most of that information is not exactly well documented,
any time you use ANY outside product to modify data, you are risking
corruption.  It's not limited to Access by any means.

Re: Looking at Item db in Access is 10,000 in the POS database 37

I'm actually trying to use Access to add, view and modify my customer contact
data residing in RMS. What I'm trying to establish is a means by which a
sales rep. (separate from the POS cashier) can use the customer contact data
in RMS to carry out "CRM" type tasks; i.e. logging calls to customers, create
sales opportunities, tasks, etc. against the contact data residing in RMS. I
also need the sales rep to be able to add customer contact info via Access
into RMS, so that once a sale occurs with that customer, the POS cashier can
simply call up the customer info.

I've gotten as far as setting up the Access database to connect to the RMS
SQL database, and I can see the RMS customer records from Access. But is
there an easier, more effective way of achieving this? Should I be looking at
MS CRM perhaps?
