took 4 days. we had on going sales during ths time. i reset all inventory
quantitys to 0 before entering the count so that sales during the entry time
would reflect as a negative quantity on hand thinking that when the count was
commtted that the QOH
and count would reconcile, this does not appear to be the case.
any ideas please
Re: manual inventory quandry (liquor wine)
counts within the current physical inventory count, not after the
inventory is committed. We just did an inventory of about 5,000 item
lookup codes using (3) handheld data collectors yesterday. We
imported the first file from the first data collector and then the
second and third files. Each time as we imported the subsequent files
after the first import, the quantities were added to the previous
quantity within the inventory. Once we were satisfied that the
inventory was as good as it was going to get, we committed the
inventory and it became our new book inventory, overwriting the
previous book inventory.

were about to start out. But even then it wouldnt really matter. But you can
just put a blank file in and since nothing is there everything will be zero
after you save it. Kinnard what you said about adding to that makes sense
but what i dont understand is why dont you get the scann data CSV file and
add to it there. But i see where you are coming from as well. The problem I
dont like about the physical inventory count is the fact that if you have
parent/ child items it kinda screws you up. For instance Cartons of cigs have
10 packs in it if i scan 11 packs my inventory is going to show over one pack
short 1 carton. This statement is true and i have no problem with that
....but I would like to see the carton and pack next to each other so i can
see why I am short the carton. It maybe with how i run the report afterwards
I just cant think of a good way of running it.

corrupt and i needed a marker to designate items not in inventory or not
counted.
i have only had this software three months and the learning curve is vertical.
after much trial i have discovered the real problem is this:
when entering the inventory count the software records the qty counted and
reconciles it against the expected qty at the time of entry- but- there may
be sales not accounted for from the time of entry to the time the item is
comitted, ie item x is counted and entered on monday count = 100 expected •
delta =-5
tuesday sales wed sales thursday the item is comitted inventory does
not reflect sales tues & wed of 40 so inventory count is useless. my old
software allowed sales to be put in a holding mode while doing inventory then
run once the counts were comitted, reconciling the count.
you can reset inventory counts globaly with the inventory wizard - you will
need a reason code
i just recently changed my cigs to a p/c configuration, thanks for the heads
up

I know what you mean about sales during inventory right now is the end to
our year so we are counting after hours to make sure the count is correct.
What inventory recieving program are you using if any? What handhelds are
you using to count inventory?

RE: manual inventory quandry (liquor wine)
WOW! I thought I was the only one with inventory issues. Our partner does
not speak English as a first language and we had many miscommunications from
the very beginning. We too have 5000+ items in our inventory that we counted
by hand. If I ran across an item that was not in our database, but obviously
for sale in our store, I created the item and then I did a separate physical
inventory sheet for them. I have not experienced any problems with our
inventory being way off from the time of entering and time of committal. If
I counted an item on the third of January, and I entered it today with the
count date of 1-3, it appears that sales were taking into consideration. I
have been working on inventory since 12-31-07. I still have a ton to learn,
and seemingly on my own since the "training" we go from our partner SUCKED!
That is another long story. We've had RMS since August and my boss is ready
to put it in the dumpster and try Quickbooks POS. I think he wants to see my
head spin!

Kathleen, RMS has its own set of issues but over the past few years
quickbooks POS has gotten very buggy....have your boss check out the
quickbooks POS forum (link below) and I think after reading about the
different bugs regarding inventory, held receipts and sales taxes being wrong
he'll put that idea to rest....

RE: manual inventory quandry (liquor wine)
saying about it taking sales into account I really dont think that is the
case. We do inventory by vendors (the reason by vendors is because RMS doesnt
let bin locations stay the same for each store. What I mean is HQ overwrites
bin locations or we would be doing it by the bin locations. So we pick a
vendor count everything we get from that vendor then load it up. RMS gets
easier the longer you do it just hang in there and make this forum your
homepage and you will get thru it. Oh also tell your boss to get you a
handheld.

RE: manual inventory quandry (liquor wine)
i will say that microsoft has been very attentave to this issue however no
real solution has been forth coming. i have decided to abondon the issue and
implement a rolling inventory count to fix it over time.
i will be learning to use our hand held ,maybe this will become a non issue.
however i will be trashing rms if this issue is not fixed before our next
year end inventory.
i am going to post another item concerning price/cost changes look for it
and give your thoughts please
thanks to everyone for ypur input

RE: manual inventory quandry (liquor wine)
made things sooooo much easier. Instead of creating two files for one item we
create one then send it down to the stores not to mention price changes. But
on to your inventory we just counted a store that has about 5000 skus plus a
deli with two handhelds now this is after hours but we counted the whole
store in 4 1/2 hours. You have got to use handhelds you will cut your time in
half and they are so easy to use. We use the PSC pt40 its small like a cell
phone I put a program that I changed in it so we would not have over scans.
My next project is going to be scanning in our DSD items.

drive the software before investing in the other store. because of abc laws
in my home state cost and price are not uniform for the two stores. the two
stores must be treated as seperate entity
