How can I have someone log in & out using the time card feature, but disable all rights to the POS?

Vince,

Take a look at setting up 'Setting up a security level' in the Help screen, it gives you detailed instructions on how to setup security rights in the POS. In fact here is a cut a paste from the help screen: To set up a security level in the POS program

  1. On the transaction screen, click on the blank field located to the left of the F7: Set Customer function key. You should see the Security Mode icon displayed both on the field that was just clicked and at the top of the transaction screen.

  1. Select the window whose security controls you want to define. For this example, press F2 to display the Items window.

  2. Press Ctrl-S. Each control will be highlighted in either a blue (control currently as no access restrictions) or red (control currently has some type of access restriction) color. If you move the cursor over the controls, Store Operations highlights the selected control in yellow.

  1. If you do not want certain cashiers to be able to delete an item at the point-of-sale, you could restrict access to the Delete button. To do this, click on the Delete button. You will see the Security window.

  2. In the Access Rights table, position the cursor on the applicable security level and either select or clear the Disable Change option for the applicable security level. If you select (check) the option, the cashier assigned to this security level will not be able to delete an item.

  1. Click OK.

  2. On the Items window, you can set the security access for the applicable controls.

  1. When you finish, press Ctrl-S. You can then display another window and press Ctrl-S again to assign the security access privileges. Repeatedly pressing Ctrl-S enables you to switch from assigning security control behaviors to displaying other windows.

  2. After you set up your security structure, click on the Security Mode icon located on the bottom left corner of the transaction screen to exit security mode.

Robert, Thank You...I have actually read all of that, I thought that there was a way to get them not to even get a chance to see the POS.

Well, you could use RMS Security to disable every control in POS except the Timeclock. That would be a lot of work, but is theoretically possible. We're considering building an add-in to manage RMS security without clicking on every control, which would make this a lot easier to configure.

Vince, We have also developed an add-on that will allow the cashiers to use a scanner to clock in and out. They simply create a barcode with their cashier number. When the cashier scans their barcode it clocks them in, if they are already clocked in it clocks them out. This all runs in the system tray / background and requires no interaction with the actual POS. The POS can even be ringing up sales while the cashiers clock in and out using a second scanner, or it can be a system that does not even have RMS installed.

Email us if you are interested.
