Using POS in Grocery Store

Hi ... I have just finished setup of RMS system in my grocery store ... I'd like to know has anyone complete grocery store inventory database and can share with me, or is ther any link to download an inventory.? Like I just can't figure out ... I have to put each item in database, like scanning each items barcode, than adding it's name and so on ? I thing it's not operative waste of time ... I've found a few links with yearly $5000 fee . It's something like crazy you don;t think so ? I'm agree to pay like $50 one time payment for full inventory, otherways I will du it myselfe and put it on internet for free :) ...

So is there anyone who can help me in this case ? any IDeas ?

Hi Ashot, I have C-stores so i really cant help but what i would do is look to your grocery supplier. They should have a database already in place you may have to add some things but it beats putting everything in.

I have recently set up a 9000 sq foot mini super on microsoft retail management. You can download spreadsheets, but make sure they are ready. Our computer guy was not totally up to speed, some things went out of place and we had to recategorize many items. Also when asking your suppliers for spreadsheets, many will provide them. Tell them what form you want the code in. My main grocery supplier provided my list in 10 digit upc format. everyone else provided 12 digit which was a pain to make them all work together. Hang in there, short term, it is not fun. NOw that we are up and running, wow, this provides some amazing features that allow us to really stay on top of purchasing and sales.

Hi Arik ... can you tell me where can I download it ? ... Actully it's not such a pain to make 10 digit upc-a codes to 12 digit codes with check digits and serial numbers ... actually in grocery stores the main part of upc codes starts with 0 serial number, and there is a simple way to calculate the last -check digit ... Right now I'm decoding my 17000 items database, which has 13 digit ean-13 compilation, and you know it's almost fun :) ... I will end the double check by the end of this month and I'm going to put it on web , that enyone could download it. Could you please send me the inventory list from that market ?

Did you ever find a grocery store inventory list you downloaded? I am trying the same idea and found nothing so far.
