This is, after all, a Quicken newsgroup.
I transferred my Merrill Lynch accounts last year. Merrill had terrible integration with Quicken, and I finally got tired of promises to support Direct Connect "soon." I understand that Direct Connect IS available now, but I'm not going back.
I also closed my Morgan Stanley accounts. Quicken integration was better, but I still got the feeling that "independent" investing was not encouraged.
Fidelity was better, but account info is not updated till late at night, not in "real-time."
I don't have any Vanguard accounts, but my understanding is that Vanguard also updates at night, and not in "real-time."
I've found Charles Schwab's real-time updating, and Direct Connect support to fit my purposes best. $9.95 for unlimited shares per trade is not exorbitant in my book. I don't trade much anyway, so Schwab's web site meltdown on Thursday did not impact me.
It WAS unsettling, though, to have Quicken return error messages for my primary broker. That "glitch" during a minor turmoil does NOT inspire confidence.
I WOULD be VERY interested in hearing if anyone had problems with Schwab in '87, '98, or '00-'02.
I would also be interested in whether other brokerage firms offer Direct Connect real-time updates.
Thanks, Bob
