Chase required 'validation'?

So my Chase d/l did not work yesterday. I saw that in my email I had to log onto my Chase account and receive (via their trusted email message system within the Chase https: server) a code that I was asked to regurgitate. After supplying that (to validate my email address was correct?), the Q d/l worked fine. Anyone else have this interesting situation and know what is behind it? Just curious.

They sent me an email asking me to do this last November, with a warning that downloads to Quicken would stop working if I failed to do so. A month later I received a second email making the same request for one of my Chase credit cards (the former Quicken card, which still downloads separately).

Yep, sounds like the same 'deal'. Thanks.
