I do Tools > Account List I then scxroll down to my Investment Accounts and Select the account I want to change and then right click on Edit. This brings up an Account Details screen. I then go into the Account Name field and change the spelling on the Account and click on OK. This brings me back to Account List screen but the Account Name has not been changed.
Hi there! Whenever you have a problem with Quicken, ALWAYS try to remember to enter both the Quicken Version/Type (eg: Quicken 2007 Premier) and (to a lesser degree, but you never know, your operating system level (eg Windows XP).
That way those people who have your particular level of Q can try to reproduce your problem.
I just tried your scenario on my Q2009D and you must not be at the latest level since for your scenario, one can not 'right click' on edit when viewing accounts....there's a BUTTON that allows you to edit details. And I do believe this is something that changed in the newer release. I did successfully change the account name in MY scenario, but perhaps others will help once they know what level of Q you are running.
I reread my post and I assumed when reading your original post you were talking about the ability to right click on the NAME of the account to bring up a context sensitive drop down and selecting edit from such a list - if you meant by 'selecting the account's and right clicking on 'edit' , you indeed might be talking about selecting the edit button I was referring to - if so, sorry about that.
But, saying that, it still allowed me to change the account name successfully.
I tried everything I could think of and could not reproduce your problem (in Q2007). I do not recall ever hearing of your problem before.
Is it just the one investment account name that you can not change? Can you change the names of other investment accounts? Non-investment accounts?
I suspect you have some corruption; either your data or your software.
What happens if you create a New Quicken file, setup one, or two (one investment, one non-investment), accounts in that file (depending on whether the problem is confined to investment accounts or not), then try to change names? If the account name change works in a New Quicken file, I suspect your data is corrupted: the "solution" for that is to make a Quicken Copy of your data and Validate that Copy. If that eliminates the problem, make the Validated Copy your regular Quicken file.
If you can't change an account name in a New Quicken file, or if the Validate doesn't help, you can try reinstalling Quicken (and updating to release R5). You might want to use qcleanui.exe (on the Quicken CD) to insure a successful uninstall, and you might want to manually remove any folders with "Quicken" in their name (look in Documents and Settings, and WINDOWS especially) - obviously don't delete your Quicken data or backup folders. When you re-install, you also might want to install to a new folder,
