Does the search find the payee in your account register, where you've previously used it? Or someplace else?

What is the "drop down list of payees in Register? Are you talking about the "Memorized Payee" list that shows when you're inputting a new transaction?

AND, where does the search find the "particular item"? In the register, where you previously used it?

The memorized payee list does not have a particular payee. Call it "JOE", If I then do a search for " JOE" using find in the EDIT menu, a list of several transactions having payee "JOE" appears. Clicking on a transaction in this list takes you back to the original transaction in the checkbook register. I thought that the memorized payee list got its entries from the transactions in the register.

That's a setting on the EDIT, Preferences, "Data Entry & Quickfill" menu, to "Automatically memorize new payees". There's ALSO a setting to "Remove Payees not used in ___ months", where the blank is filled by a pulldown. Mine is set to 4 months. BE AWARE, that an overly long, bloated Payees list is one of the most reliable causes of Q slow-down.

Thanks a lot. I am sure that this will clear up some of my issues.
