Preferred Stocks

Can anyone give me some information about where Quicken gets it's stock quote updates. I've alway had a problem getting the symbol correct so that Q will update a preferred stock price. Currently I have one that I'm unable to update any way except manually and I would like to fix it. R. Wink

Well, one place that quotes come from is your Brokerage. Why aren't they sending quotes?

Mainly because I don't use the Q feature of publishing my personal information to the public. I've never d/l'd anythinng from a borkerage because of the ability of others to take the information...secure it's not. All I;m looking for is a DB that Q uses so I can sync my symbols with Qs.

But you trust Q's sources more than your own brokerage???? BIZARRE!

And, what "publishing my personal information tot he public" are you talking about? The info, in transit from your broker is every bit as secure as the data sitting on the broker's servers ... perhaps even more so.

I concur with Dan's reply completely. The idea that your downloaded broker age data is "published" to the public is rather strange. Don't you think there would have been a gigantic outcry if this was happening and/or common ? I've been downloading my brokerage data, including preferred prices for years, with no problem whatsoever.

I can't speak for sure about "where" but I believe their data is more in li ne with Morningstar. For example, Morningstar uses COFPRC for a Cap One Fi nance preferred. Quicken uses COF PRC, note the inserted space. The (spac e)PRx appendage currently seems applicable though I have seen other forms i n the past.
