Can I go ahead and file my 1040 with a missing k1

I am self employed sole proprietor and do my own 1040 and related forms thru Turbo Tax and they are all done and all ready to be filed but I also have second business thats a general partnership and those taxes are handled via an accountant because the 1065 is to complex for me to figure out. The problem is I want to file an extension for the

1065 because it won't be ready by the 15th because my partner who normally has his accountant do the 1065 along with his own 1040 failed to get the paperwork to accountant on time but I need the K1 form from 1065 to file with my regular taxes. Can I file my 1040 without the K1 on the Schedule E and then amend the Schedule E later when the 1065 is finally done and I have the K1 or do I also have to file an extension for my personal income tax until I can get the completed K1.

Thanks in advance, Adam

I would not file an incomplete return in this situation. I would suggest that you file a personal extension but be sure to pay enough in taxes with the extension to cover your complete tax due including the partnership income. The extension is an extension of time to file not time to pay.

If you pay in more than you ultimately owe, you can credit it towards next year's estimated taxes or get a refund when you file the return.

The partnership also needs to file an extension. There are substantial penalties for late filing a partnership return. You can avoid these penalties with a partnership extension until the extended due date.

Also, don't forget any state extension and payment requirements for both personal and partnership.
