Places to put cash

I am putting my cash, which is for emergency and down-market needs in T-Bills and CD's paying about 5.5%. Any ideas of better place to park money?

Better in what ways? Anything better than T-bills will mean more risks. Are you willing to put your emergency cash at risk?

My second link showed all the peers sorted by best yearly total return. Haven't looked closely at it recently, but best not to take a strictly cherry-picking approach. The funds vary in strategy (duration?) so that they randomly swap between the good to the bad section based on things like falling or rising rates. And the very high and low flyers may violate the spirit of the approach. Look at longer term returns and dig a little deeper on their strategy.

Money Market Funds.

However risk and return go together. If a MMF is paying much above the market rate, the odds are it is doing something with derivatives to enhance yield-- this increases yield but also increases risk.

Another solution would be to invest in securities paying a higher rate of interest in another currency eg New Zealand or Iceland.

However you would then be fully exposed to exchange rate risk. Last March, the Icelandic currency nearly had a horrendous crash. The high Icelandic interest rate reflects that risk.

You really can't escape risk and return in this world. More return, more risk.

You raise a good point. If I wanted more return, I would be tempted to *reduce* my safe cash holdings, and invest that money in equities, say.

Keeping my cash as safe. Rather than taking risks with my cash.

There are investment funds which give 13% Returns, fixed and guaranteed. Beats CD's, mutual funds and no loss of money. However, this is only if your outlook is for atleast a year. Drop me a message if you want to discuss this.

Investing is about being realistic and having a long term plan. When you have done some more study,.you can in time become a savvy investor and try moving towards slightly more aggressive investing, perhaps the stock markets or forex markets.

I think we would all like to discuss a 13% GUARANTEED investment fund. Why not just post it here?
