Q2012 H&B taking 40 seconds to s witch between accounts “glitch” fixed

When I first upgraded to Q2012 H&B switching between accounts would take 40 seconds. I couldn?t live with that, so I?ve been running Q2011 & Q2012 in parallel.

I?d been planning a laborious QIF import of all my Q2011 data to a clean Q2012 file, since that seems to cure the problem. Going through the Category List, I noticed that there was an odd [] category with only 1 transaction. Figured out that was ?[? and ?]? IOW, a blank account name for a transfer.

Odd, since none of my accounts have a blank name. That one transaction was actually the ?Opening Balance? of my ?Children?s Credit Cards? account. I just have that as a blank account to separate the kids? credit cards that I charge to and pay on. e.g. for them to spend $30k to qualify for the British Airways companion ticket.

I?d noticed that there was a blank account when I?d do reports and choose the Accounts to include. Anyway, I deleted that Opening Balance, and the Category List changed to 0 Accounts using that category.

However, [] was still listed as a category. Genius that I am, I hit on the brilliant idea of just deleting that placeholder account ;-)

Wah lah!

Now I?m happily running Q2012 H&B without that dreaded 40 second delay :-)
