Quicken for Mac: import from Windows

I have been using Quicken on Windows for decades. Today, I launched Quicken on MacOS for the first time. It has the ability to import a Quicken Windows data file (.qdf). I did just that, and I got a dialog box that says Do you want to use Quicken Cloud to cecurely import your Quicken Windows file? This version of Quicken uses Quicken Cloud to import Quicken Windows files.

If I go along with this travesty, will my precious financial data remain on Quicken's servers?

Hi David,

From the dialog, it seems Quicken MacOS (I don't have a Mac, but would like to have one someday) uses Quicken Cloud to import your Quicken Windows Data, rather than a direct conversion, as Quicken-to-MS Money used years ago when Microsoft killed MS Money. As such The Quicken Cloud subset of your Quicken Windows data would be imported to Quicken MacOS, and your data would remain in the cloud until removed.

After your data is in the cloud, in Quicken Windows, if you Mobile & Web > Quicken ID & Cloud Accounts > Sign in as a different user >, that action will nuke your Quicken Cloud data. You will have to sign in to Quicken Windows again, but when you go back to this dialog, it will show "Never synced". As I don't have a Mac, I don't know if Quicken MacOS can nuke your cloud data in the same way, but one would hope so.

Good luck. I had to do the MS Money to Quicken conversion several times until the bugs were worked out, and maintain the data in parallel until I was sure I could live with it.
