A Carry Forward Question

Apr 12, 2007 1 Replies

I am a student and do not have a taxable income for 2006. So I have three questions:

  1. I have paid over 00 in student loans interest this year, since I cannot deduct it this year, can I Carry Forward for future tax years?
  2. I have paid over ,000 in tuition, under normal circumstances only 00 is deductible per year. Since I cannot deduct any this year, can I Carry Forward for future tax years?
  3. If I can carry forward any of them, how should I do it exactly, as TurboTax deluxe does not give any indication. Thanks, Ben

Certain expenses can carry forward, such as stock losses, but student tuition or loan interest are not on the list. If you get no benefit in the year you paid them, then you lose them.
