Another savings bond question

- Does the Fed provide any sort of form when savings bonds are redeemed?

1099-INT or something like that? My son cashed in some bonds in December 2009 and *claims* he's gotten nothing in the way of paperwork since them. But, he also says he's got "a huge pile of financial papers"......

Whatever financial institution cashed them issues a 1099-INT if the interest was $10 or more. He also got a receipt at the time he cashed them showing the interest.

At TreasuryDirect.gov, it looks the the 1099-INT is available online. So maybe you can view yours online as well

The banks at which I've cashed savings bonds have sent me 1099's, showing the interest as U.S. Treasury interest. It's usually on the same 1099 that reports savings account interest as well.

Does the 1099 show the person who redeemed them, or the original purchaser?

I'm not seeing that option on the site.
