I'm a US citizen working for a British firm on South Pacific islands for the last 31 years. My domestic partner of 19 years is an Australian citizen. We live in NSW, but I am there only 9 days ever four weeks on unpaid leave. I have filed a US tax return annually, but never to pay US taxes - except on investment income. The ATO does not require me to file an Australian tax return. So my superannuation is very high and my contributions have never taxed by anyone. I want to retire in two years and return to the US. Australia will not tax my superannuation payments. Will the US tax them? What about individual US States taxing them. Peter
