Correcting errors in 2002 and 2003?

Mar 08, 2005 1 Replies

I failed to deduct investment fees in 2002 and 2003. This year it will save me $800 in Federal and $200 in NYS tax. I don't know about 2002 and 2003, but presume they will be appproximately the same. I did everything on "taxcut", so recalculating will be easy enough. Can I correct the returns and get my overpayment back, either federal or NY? How difficult a thing is it to do? Is there a deadline? Thanks.

Yes, you can file an amended return (1040X for Federal, don't know about NY) On Taxcut it should be pretty easy, but I've never done it. There is a deadline. For Federal returns, 2002 deadline is April 15, 2006 and for 2003, deadline is April 15, 2007, assuming you filed on time. Don't know the dates for NY. Dennis
