Is a phone number really required on federal tax forms? On Calif forms it says Optional?
From an audit 20+ years ago - I see an advantage to not provide any phone numbers.
Any opinions? Thanks in advance. RC

No. It's not required. It's not like they're going to call you. And if you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS (or state tax department), chances are it's a scam. Don't give them any information over the phone.
