Form for explaining excess distribution

Mar 31, 2011 1 Replies

Hi,

In 2010, I made excess contribution to Roth IRA. In March, 2011, I have made an excess distribution to correct my excess contribution. So that is good. Now, I have reported in TaxCut of my excess disbribution and earnings associated with it. I want to file electronically. How do I attach an explanation to my efile that my early withdrawal is to correct an excess ROTH IRA contribution in 2010? (I rather not file on paper)

Thanks, Sam

I presume all was done per Pub. 590. My IRA custodian (Fidelity) required me to fill out a special form to correct an excess contribution I made. Then the custodian made the withdrawal (with earnings), etc. on my behalf. I think Pub. 590 talks about the fact that many custodians do it this way.

Did you go through the steps at

  1. Did you try customer support at

  2. I use TaxAct . TaxAct has a means of adding a written explanation for an excess contribution and subsequent withdrawal while still permitting e-filing. So I am hopeful TaxCut has similar.
