Mother as a dependent

May 10, 2010 1 Replies

Can I claim my mother as a dependent even though she doesn't live with me and received social security disability and no other income. I pay her rent and food expenses which is more than half her total support.

Assuming you meet the other rule for claiming a qualifying relative, sure, you would claim her.

If you're not already filing HoH or MFJ, you might then be able to file HoH.
