Re: Schedule D and "See attachment"

I have numerous (thousands) trades in 2007, so I plan to just enter the

I used TurboTax but TaxCut should be similar. In Schedule D line 1 column (a), I entered "See short-term sales" into the software, and entered the column (d) - (f) total figures from the attachment into the software. Likewise for Line 8 and long-term, sales. I left columns (b) - (c) empty, and TurboTax didn't complain. I put the attachments where D-1 would usually go.

This way, the tax software incorporates the figures properly in its computations. (The software allows "override," but I avoid that whenever possible.)

On the attachments, I put a page heading kind of like to what the software puts for attachments: name and social security number at the top, then "Schedule D, line 1" then "Short-term sales." Likewise for Line 8 and long- term, sales.

[Disclaimer: I'm not a tax pro, but am in the habit of paying taxes.]

And did your software print out a form 8453 with instructions of how and to where the form should be mailed?

Thanks for the alert, but it's not relevant in my case.
