I think you are still missing the point. What is supposed to be entered on Line 21 is the gross amount of WINNINGS, not the net of your wins and losses. Losses can only be claimed as an itemized deduction on Schedule A (if used).

So every bet you win is profit on line 21. Every bet you lose is an itemized deduction? You have to be mistaken; the paperwork would be literally impossible. Moderator: Isn't "paperwork overload" part of the tax system?
