Social security taxes

This is not a question, nor it is political opinion, but the link is posted at the request of an esteemed colleague. Periodically this urban legend pops up. I have received it many times in both my business and personal mailbox. It involves members of congress and social security. I won't quote the entire message, but please go to:

and read about congressmen paying into (or not) social security. We of this group ought to help put this one to rest. Actually that home page "snopes" bears bookmarking in your browser (favorites in that da*ned Microsoft Explorer!) ChEAr$, Harlan Lunsford, EA n LA

It pops up every few months on alt.social-security-disability, and I squelch it with the facts (relying heavily on the Snopes page), yet like the undead it keeps rising to vex those of us who know better. It seems to be one of those things that some people believe _has_ to be true, and no amount of evidence to the contrary will convince them otherwise. Just like the "notch babies."
