No more cat and mouse. Just shoot looters.
Someone I know who runs a hardware shop in an affected area has put jars of lye and conc. sulphuric acid into glass jars, along with molotov cocktails, in case he needs to defend his shop.

On your recommendation, I expect.
Fortunately the scumbag rioters are after mobile phones, iPads and television sets, not screwdrivers, teapots and bathmats.
Wrong, they showed a hardware shop that was trashed and looted for the hammers/axes/hatchets/screwdrivers etc, on tv earlier.
That'll be why they smashed up and looted Boots, Toni & Guy and Ladbrokes then, eh?
Too stupid to realise betting shops don't sell anything. But I bet they're well stocked up on very small biros
I hadn't seen those reports. The Ladbrokes attack was allegedly to get the TV that was fixed to the wall but they probably smashed it.
If I was running a shop, I would want to defend it with a baseball bat or whatever weapon came to hand but I suppose if you do that, the bastards will probably stab you with a knife.
it is not your right to be armed...
that is the right of the police and criminals only
"Police and thieves..."
to be armed...
Both as bad as each other....
There, I have removed the superfluous for you.
What is a bookies stock in trade? Cash!
Small biros and slips are provided for customer to hand over theirs to the bookmaker. If they trash the bank first then all the traders will still have their takings in store.
Is there a difference?
No, you're petrified of both.
Oh sh*t. The police have now closed the main street close to where I work and are warning of the possibility of riots this evening. Do I hang around at the office, gathering together any sharp implements I can find, or just give up and trust to luck? There are also rumours that the Blackberry Chat and Twitter and other social networking sites have been temporarily closed down, but as I don't use them maybe others can confirm.
Get out of there Todal. Your improvised "letter-opener sellotaped to a ruler" won't be any damned good if the building is on fire.
Twitter has certainly not been "closed down" thus far, and it is almost inconceivable that it would be. Blackberry Messaging being shut down is marginally more plausible but has not happened so far as I know.
that is for you to judge
regards

Guess what we had in our shop today, and that's a long way from London?

Well maybe it should be, just as there maybe should be a curfew in all parts of London tonight.
John.
Should we all club together to get you a plane ticket so you can fly over to America and tell them to turn it off?
