EA? and CPA?

I've heard of CPA but never EA before. What is that? What's the difference between CPA and EA? Which is harder certification to get? Which is better to get? Is it good to get both? Which gets more respect? Which makes more money? Thanks in advance.

EAs are Enrolled Agents and are authorised to represent taxpayer in case of IRS audit. They get the designation either by passing exam or based on the their experience as IRS agents. CPA is harder certification as many states require accounting education to appear for the CPA exam. CPAs and EAs can both make good money depending on how you develop your practice.
