ABC Trust

If a decedent spouse owns a home as separate property, and provides in the trust for the surviving spouse to live in the house, reserving it for other beneficiaries when the survivor dies: Is the trust responsible for the taxes, upkeep, improvements, or is the survivor?

Thanks

It has always been my understanding (sorry, no citation) that the owner of a Life Estate was responsible for the expenses associated with that Life Estate (i.e. he receives the benefits "net").
