Are athletes really that generous?

It seems as if every baseball and football player has their own charitable foundation. They can't all be that generous; they must be saving taxes somehow. What's the real story?

all of the above. Many are generous and want to pay back, it has tax advantage for high income individuals, they get good publicity which in turn translates into high income for markteting.

they also get to pal around with "important" people, each giving money to each others causes, and getting photos snapped.
