trying to wrap my head around this:
- currently I cover student with my company provided health plan which is a HDP and have an HSA
- am aware that any expenses now that I pay for are covered through the HSA, should I wish to reimburse myself (which I have not done)
the question is
if the student obtains insurance on their own and selects a HPD plan with their own HSA, what happens to the unreimbursed items in my HSA?
reason I ask is that I plan on never reimbursing myself from my HSA, am just collecting all receipts for payments and allow the HSA money to earn interest and investment income
thus, when I finally take my dirtnap, does my surviving family have to know anything about situation above or simply start paying themselves against the receipts in the shoebox?
am I making this too complicated as to my thinking it does not matter when student obtains health insurance because as long as I am able to carry on my insurance, then any expenses go into my shoebox and later the student will just build their own tower of receipts?
