Socail Security wage report

Exuse me for this tax question.

My wife received benefits from SS this year but did not receive a W-2 (or whatever they issue). Where can I get the information?

Thanks

She should have gotten an SSA-1099. Call your local Social Security office for a replacement. Instead of waiting for it, you also may be able to reconstruct the amount by adding up the SSA deposits into her bank account.

It is a SSA-1099 form. If you didn't receive it you can get a duplicate from SSA or simply add up the payments received in 2006. If you know what she received for ANY month just multiply that amount by 12 since SS payments didn't change during 2006 (assuming she received SS the entire year).

Thanks.

I went with the "add up the payments" option. That was the only number I needed with TurboTax.

What about the Medicare Part B? Part D? Probably the max amount, but simply adding up the deposits alone does not tell you what needs to go on the tax form (including possible Sched. A. medical deductions).

You can call the SSA at their 800 number, and when you eventually get an operator (just keep on saying "operator" to the voice-recognition-menu-from-hell), and verify your identity, they can tell you the correct box 3 and box 5 amounts from the SSA-1099.
