Participant Maintenance Fee

Apr 02, 2011 1 Replies

My Fidelity 403B account now records a Participant Maintenance Fee for each Mutual Fund. This Fee is collected by selling a fractional share. When I download this to Quicken (2011D) it enters it as a "sell - shares sold" with the proceeds going to the cash balance. How should I record this maintenance fee? Should I add a second transaction or can I modify the existing one?

Hi, AMcC.

You can do it either way. It might be more clear if you record a second transaction decreasing your balance and charging the investment expense (by whatever name makes sense to you). But it would be just as logical to have the cash proceeds go directly to the expense account -- if that option is available.
