Tax Free Income

I have a major portion of my retirment portfolio in Tax Free Income investments, principally Municipal Bonds. I have never understood why Quicken doesn't have a category for recording the tax free income for these bonds in the Securities Transaction section for each Brokerage Account. It permits you to identify the bond as "Municipal" when you set it up and identify the name but whenever I use the investment register to record the income as tax free I have to enter it as "Miscellaneous Income" and then futher identify it as in the Investment Category where I can select wether it is tax free interest or tax free dividend income. It is a royal pain in the butt to have to go though this routine when it could be handled by the Quicken Software in a hell of a lot more efficient manner.

I must not be understanding your problem.

Quicken already has the capability to deal with tax-free "investments", like municipal bonds.

Virtually every Quicken security type has an optional check box, "Tax Free". See Investing > Security List and Edit any security.

If there's a checkmark in that box; income transactions for the security will be categorized to "_DivIncTaxFree" or "_IntIncTaxFree".

What different treatment are you looking for?
