1098-T

Feb 06, 2011 1 Replies

This is my first experience with the 1098-T. Just received a 1098-T for my wife. We are filing jointly on the 1040. She has no income (no W-2) but was awarded a Pell grant last fall for a 6 month nursing course. She just graduated from the course this week. Box 1 on 1098- T is $3800. Box 5 is $3700. Do I add the $3800 to my income on Line

7 of 1040, or is it more complicated than that? Thanks for any assistance.

Alan

First, make sure the numbers on the 1098-T are correct. They often aren't. Then see IRS Publication 970 for what to report.
