ARP checks

Is my understanding that the handling of ARP checks will match the IRS handling of refunds correct?

For instance, I finally got my refund for TY 2019 less than three weeks back. It came with a note saying that they couldn't honor direct deposit requests that were that old. (My original return for TY 2019 was sent on 2020-03-27.)

Does this mean that when they get around to me, I can count on the ARP money being a live check, rather than a direct deposit?

Thanks,

If you are referring to your EIP3 payment, the IRS can use direct deposit information it has on file. Whether it will is another question. The issue with your 2019 refund is that the IRS is required to send a paper check once the calendar year in which a return is filed has ended.

The NY Times warns that the site is frequently overwhelmed, but I got through on the first try Sunday morning.

It looks as if the money will be deposited to my account, despite the age of my direct deposit request. Happening Wednesday.

Thanks.
