Average time period for IRS release.

Jan 31, 2007 1 Replies

Briefly....The executor of my uncles's will says he must wait for a letter from the IRS stating (release) that all taxes have been paid before he can settle the estate. According to the executor (an attorney), all taxes have been filed. The only thing holding up the settlement is this "letter". About what is the average time between the final release and the inital filing of the estate to the IRS? Is there any way to contact the IRS to see what the current status of the estate is?

Generally, the IRS letter takes somewhere between 4-9 months You just gotta wait ... and then there is the state clearance
