California Child Care Credits

I was employed for the first half of the year, and self-employed for the second half of the year. Apparently I qualify for both the California child and dependent care credit taken on form 3506, and the employer child care contribution credit taken on form 3501. Can I , in fact, take both credits, or does taking one prohibit taking the other? I would use Jan-Jun expenses on the 3506, and Jul-Dec expenses on the 3501. Thank you for any and all advice.

I don't see any reason why you cannot take both -- the Sec.

17052.6 child care credit for the part of the year when you were employed, and the employer credit (Sec. 17052.18) for the part of the year when you were self-employed. I wouldn't be surprised, though, if the apparent doubling up resulted in some correspondence with the FTB. Katie in San Diego
