consultant based in one state who gives services to people in other states but never steps foot there

I am based in South Carolina and am thinking about opening a consulting computer programming business where I login to businesses' computers remotely across the country and do programming on their computers. I will likely never physically leave South Carolina to do this. What licensing pitfalls could I fall into? What about multi-state tax issues ?
