Correcting an IRA Distribution

Feb 11, 2011 1 Replies

my mother-in-law requested her IRA distribution for 2011 on Dec 31, 2010. The Bank actually made the distribution on the 31st rather than waiting until Jan 3 like they were requested to.

Question: Is it possible to return the distribution to the IRA account and then make the withdrawal again for 2011?

Don't blame the bank.

Yes, within 60 days of the initial distribution you may rollover the distribution to an IRA. That uses your once in a 12 month period ability to do this for that IRA account.

If any tax was withheld you place that back in an IRA too.
