Filing from overseas with complications ...

I'm a US citizen who's spent nearly all my life living in New Zealand, except for the past two years where I've been living in Australia. I'm a student on an APA (Australian Postgraduate Award, a tax-exempt PhD scholarship in Australia which gives about $AU20K/yr). At the start of 2006, I did some ski field work for about 2

1/2 months in Colorado. The amount of money earned was pretty minimal, as I spent a lot of the time skiing ... Since this is the first time I've worked in the US, this is my first encounter with the IRS. I'm not entirely sure how I should be filing. Am I a resident of Colorado who's overseas at the moment, or am I an overseas resident? Probably more importantly, what would likely be the US tax status of my scholarship? At the moment, I'm owed a small amount (~$200) from the IRS, but if my scholarship is taxable in the US this would obviously swing it around a bit. I've also got Australian and New Zealand bank accounts (as well as a US one) that earn nominal amounts of interest (I'd guess less than 3 figures) which I'm guessing need to be added in as well if I want to be 100% legit? The main thing I'm concerned about is not making the IRS unhappy :) Getting the $200 back would be nice, but if I have to pay $400 to a tax professional in order to do so it's obviously not worth it.
