Form 709 Question

Mar 20, 2015 0 Replies

I have a question about where to enter certain data in Part 1 of Schedule A of Form 709.

Assume a very basic situation. My wife and I gave a $30,000 cash gift to our son in 2014. We have no other gifts larger than the $28,000 joint exclusion.

On my Form 709 I list the gift in the top part of Part 1 of Schedule A. I enter $30,000 in Columns D and F, and $15,000 in Columns G and H.

The question is - on my wife's Form 709, does her matching entry go in the top part of Part 1 of Schedule A, or in the lower part of Part 1 of Schedule A, below the line "Gifts made by spouse - complete only if you are splitting gifts with your spouse and he/she also made gifts."

Thank you,
