i wonder how many of the folks complaining about the low reimbursement from the BP fund had been under-reporting their income to the IRS in prior years, so they didn't have the evidence to support their claims.
If the reports I've read about are to be believed this has been a widespread problem. I've heard that the reimbursement team asks for copies of income tax returns AND is getting either the 4506 or the 8821 forms signed, then waiting until the income is compared and confirmed with the IRS before issuing any checks.
I do NOT know if its true, but I've heard that the IRS has (or had) posted personnel on site specifically to confirm the information submitted AND to refer cases for examination where the information submitted for reimbursement has not matched the information submitted to the IRS.
