IRS Correction - Confirmation

I received a IRS correction notice two weeks ago indicating that they corrected the taxable social security benefits that I showed on our tax return. Per this group's advice, I contacted IRS last week by phone to inform them I used the lump sum election method to calculate the taxable benefits. I also faxed them the social security LSE worksheets and they agreed on the phone that my numbers were correct. They told me they would change the numbers back to the original ones that I submitted. But there won't be any written confirmation by mail or on the web site to indicate the final change. They said the only confirmation would be the direct deposit of a small refund originally shown on our tax return, which won't be processed for at least a couple of weeks. I just checked the IRS web site and called by phone on the refund status. Nothing has been changed yet. The original correction notice has a payment due date of May 18, which is a week away. I am concerned that the change may not come through and it may still shows we owe money when the due date comes. Is is common that we won't get a confimation that we have called to resolve the issue, and a new change has been made? I hesitate to call again. What else can I do to re-confirm the change? Thank you for your advice in advance.

Don't leave this hanging too long. Soon you should write this all down in a letter to the IRS address in the Notice you received, and send it in.
