Typing error correction?

I have another problem with correcting my errors in Quicken 2010 Premier Release R10. I made a simple typo in the Memo slot for one of my entries, and can not figure out how to change this. I tried editing the Investing window and this seems to have worked okay but it didn't change the error in the same Memo note in the Banking window.

I tried editing this Memo in the Banking window and got the same error message I have received any time I tried to make a change in the Banking window..."You should make this change from the Investment Account to avoid losing transaction detail. Click Go to Transfer from the Edit menu."

Is there any workable way to edit a Memo in the Banking window?

Thanks, Gordon

I'm wondering if maybe I have to change the Clr column from R to c or blank, but I haven't yet figured out how to do this.

Changing payee or memo data in transfers does not propagate the change to the other half of the transfer ... regardless of the account types involved.

You would select the transaction, click on the two periods after the "R" and select "c" or space in the resulting drop down. But this won't help with changing the memo in the linked checking account.

For that I believe you have to delete the investment account transaction and re-enter it with the desired text in the memo field.

I also have made such changes in my older version, but I've tried everything I can think of with my R10 version and simply can not edit the Memo information without deleting the whole transaction then starting over from the beginning....and hope that I don't make any typos, again.

This isn't a critical problem. I can live with a few typo errors in those text blocks but it sure seems strange that they can't be edited and corrected.

I just checked in Q2002; it works the same. I don't have anything earlier installed.

Actually, I think it's a good idea not to have changes to payee and memo automatically propagate. If they did, you would never be able to have a different payee name or memo text in each half of a transfer. The way it is now, if you want the two halves to contain the same payee and memo, you get that automatically when a new transfer is added; and if you want the two halves to be the same after changes, you can make them so.

Another way to do it is to just cut the investment side transaction and paste it. That will make the checking half record the same memo.

Good point. That effectively deletes, and re-adds, the transaction.
