Massachusetts desk audit of EIC

Has anyone else seen a NIA "Notice of Intent to Assess" from the Mass. DOR for low income taxpayers claiming the EIC? 30 day's to respond with requested information or the requested current year refund is kept. The first NIA this season was a single parent earning minimum wage and this second one is for a family with one parent on disability. This seems to be an easy way for the state to raise revenues, but it does not seem very ethical. I've not seen any of these "desk audits" on anyone but these two low income taxpayers. Is it half time yet!

The state may be doing the desk audit of these taxpayers due to the IRS disallowing the EIC on their federal tax returns. Rudy
