Moving and/or taxes province to province - help

I?ve been living in BC and working for a BC company but all of the work is out of province and mostly in Alberta. I am of course taxed at BC rates.

I am wondering if any knowledgeable person may be able to tell me this: If I move to Alberta before the end of 2013, would this be of advantage to me when filing my 2013 return?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I am not an expert on CA taxes. However, Canada has a simple rule (except for Quebec). You file your return using the province that you resided in on the last day of the year. If you are a resident of BC on

12/31/13 then your taxes will be computed using BC rates. If you are a resident of Alberta on 12/31/13 then you use Alberta rates. The amount of taxes withheld regardless of who withheld it, is credited to you against your tax bill. Alberta appears to have a flat tax rate and BC appears to have graduated tax rates. Whether or not it is advantageous to you to be a resident of Alberta on 12/31/13 will depend upon your income. Just get both province tax forms for 2012 and compute the tax as if you were a resident in each province using the 2013 rate tables and tax credits.

Below are three links that can help you:

First is the combined tax rates for federal and Alberta for both 2012 and 2013. The rates are the same but the income levels were indexed for inflation.

Second and third are the combined rates for BC for 2013 and then 2012. There were changes in the rates as well as indexing for inflation.
