New Form 3468 Investment Credit Still Not Available

The Turbotax program prevents me from filing electronically since the form 3468 has not been released. When I call the IRS they say that it has not been released but do not know when it will be done. This is due to legislation at the end of last year and earlier this year.

Is this unusual for a tax form not to be relesase by now? Should be be release by 4/15?

The tax credit is a result of a K1 form I received from one of my investments. Can I leave out the K1 info, and file electronically now, and then amend the return when the form is released? I get a good size refund without the credit and a larger refund with the credit. I just am somewhat reluctant to go thru the amendment process and have to file all the necessary paperwork manually.

Since it is a credit, amending to claim it will get you a refund. If you are expecting a large refund without the credit, I would file now and then later amend. Amending a Trubotax return is easy. Just open the return, go to the 1040X and fill in the year. This will cause all the fields that have to do with your old return to populate. Then go to the state return and do the same thing. Now go back to the federal return and enter the new information. This will cause the right column on the 1040X to reflect the changes. Add an explanation of what the changes are on page 2 and print it off. Include any schedules that change like A,B,D, 6251 (AMT), etc. You do not include the 1040. Now go to the state return and check the box that says use the federal explanation, unless you want something different. Print off the state return. When you mail it in, include a copy of the federal

1040X with it.

Do not make any changes to the return before you open up the 1040Xs or the "as it was" columns will be wrong. Uncompensated advice guaranteed correct or double your money back
