New home owners tax credit

OK so there is a good rumor going around about the 8k housing credit for new home owners. My wife and I are young and still in school. I'm looking try and buy a house with the market being low and having really good credit. The problem is that I go to school in Idaho and by no means plan to live in there for 3 years. I heard that I must live in the house for 3 years. Is this true?

Are there any ways around it? IE buy a house in another state and make that my home? and just come back to it when I'm done with school? I will be done in August of 09. Will I be able to recieve the credit if I buy it after I am done with school?

You must live in that house as your main home for at least three years to avoid having to pay back the money.

It must be the first main home you have owned (and if married, your spouse has owned) within three years.
