New to the 1099 world questions

I will be starting work Monday as a handyman for a local company. I will be getting paid a percentage of the total bill paid by the customer after material costs are subtracted. I will be using my own truck & tools. I will be getting my work orders by email each day. I will also have to have a cell phone to keep in touch with the main office. I will be getting paid as soon as customers check clears bank or credit card charge goes through. The company will not be deducting any taxes or ss and told me that they would give me a 1099. My question is do I just get a 1099 form from the company at the end of the year and file my taxes like I did on my past full time jobs? I have heard something about filing quarterly but have no clue as to how this is done. Also, if filing quarterly how do the deductions figure in there? Is there a web site where this information is available? Whenever I did searches they all seem to only apply to the company I'll be working for. Thanks

You should look into becoming a "business" under this arrangement which allows you deduct more of your expenses like tools and transportation and insurance, etc. than general filing. You dont have to incorporate to do this, though there are some other tax tradeoffs for that. In the meantime, while you sort out these options, keep EVERY receipt for business purchases and gasoline, so you may be able to use them should decide to become a business.
