Paystub viewing online

The issue: I used to get physical paychecks with the pay stub for tax deductions, but with direct deposit, I can no longer view my tax deductions.



To compound this, my employer does not list an easily accessible online payroll accounting that I can view (no site map, and multiple searches were futile).



I've requested information from my employers HR department for the correct Web address and the reply was; "we're forwarding this to HR". ... even though THAT's who I contacted!



Is their a federal law requiring employers to make tax deductions viewable online?

Federal law governs the electronic transfer of your wages. The federal labor law that governs most jobs in the U.S. does not require that you receive a pay stub. However, most of the states that I am familiar with, do have labor laws that require an employer to give you a pay stub or make one available to you. Check your state labor statute and regulations to see what is required.

On line? Requiring? Gosh, I hope not. Millions of employers don't have the capability of doing that. They write manual paychecks and otherwise are not up-to-speed with high tech. There are rules dealing with making that data secure if it's out there. But no rules or laws that compel an employer to do so.

Our clients that ask for direct deposit get vouchers that mimic a paystub with the current and ytd info on them. My direct deposit provider offers to put the pay stub info on-line, for a rather steep fee, and the clients all have opted not to go that route.
