RTRP & Rebates for Testing & Loss of Clients

I thought this topic would be humming in here. Okay. I never wanted to go through the hoops, thought that after 20 years of preparing returns almost without error, I felt the Competency Testing, continued education credits and finger printing were a bit much. Thankfully, I never spent a dime on it other than my PTIN.

Here's my point, what provisions or recourse do people have for money spent testing & training for this failed program?

Secondly, I planned to retire if need be as I'll be 62 this summer, so what do I do about the clients I lost when I told them last year that I might not be doing this next year do to these requirements. Who reimburses me for that?

Tell your clients you're still going to be doing tax returns. I imagine clients stick with preparers they're familiar with.

The RTRP program isn't dead yet. It's just suspended. The IRS will appeal the court decision. Even if they ultimately lose in court, there's a good chance that they will be able to get Congress to pass legislation authorizing the program.
