SS-4 Line 10

Hi -

I just had a question about SS-4 line 10. If the reason for applying for an EIN is "Started a new business," it then ask for the business type.

What do they mean by "type"???

Line 9a already specifies the type of entity, and line 16 has the industry. What left is there to specify on line 10? Or do we duplicate the information on line 9a or 16?

Thanks for any insight you may have.

I'm not sure, but I think they want something along the lines of what the business will be doing, ie., a description that matches an NAICS code. Why this is "important" is beyond me.

Thanks Ira. That makes as much sense as anything else.

Probably easier to grab the description from the standard Schedule C business codes.

Those are NAICS codes; actually a subset of the full list.
